Trusting his products - Don Grovic - Chief Engineer - with a load on his mind! Mr Grovic was interviewed by Journalist Gail Creighton-Barr regarding his long and interesting career in Engineering. He is affectionately known as the Grandfather of the Australian hydraulics industry, and his inventions which are among the best in the world - and more particularly, his inventing the very successful hydraulic systems associated with Ezy Lift, a great Australian company. |

| As we may already know, Mr Grovic is a hard working and successful Engineer, who has and is still, contributing to a great Australian industry. In the past, some of his experiences have not been all good, but success is not built on looking back, but looking forward and Don Grovic is always one to do just that and his success continues. Ezylift for 2008 is as busy as ever, with existing clients and new business contracts, both nationally and internationally. | |
| From the 80's to present time the Ezylift product is in use all over Australia. The chain hoists from the 80's was the safest hoist on earth, and as Mr Grovic has explained, he puts a lot of emphasis and time on the research and development phase which produces high quality and safe equipment. He said he kept the amount of moving parts to a minimum thus ensuring less problematic maintenance and his philosophy of engineering is still based on making sure you use quality parts | |
| It is a proven fact, through thousands of return customers, that the Ezylift product is a product that delivers maximum safety and reliability." We believe that any other product on the market does not have the same emphasis on quality and safety" - without harping on the subject too much Don Grovic still remembers with sadness the dishonesty that he had to deal with when he sold his chain designs and manufacturing rights to a Brisbane-based firm, they have lessened the quality and seriously affected the safety of these old products, still being sold on the market by that firm today. | |
| Time and experience has only proven to be a huge inspiration to this intrepid inventor, and as the true inventor of these global engineering solutions, his designs and manufacturing has steadily increased - Don Grovic has said "I value people I do business with, we have a common link and interest that serves us both, and Ezylift clients can always expect me and my staff to be helpful, courteous and available at any time they need us". | |
| I asked Mr Grovic if it was true that a lot of his original Ezylift hoists and chain systems were still in use around Australia, dating back to 1984. Mr Grovic said, "absolutely true, the Monorail at Broadbeach on the Gold Coast is a great example, its the original Ezylift monorail from '84 and has suffered no operational defects, no stretched chains, replacements and has a 100% safety record! " He added, "also many of our mining company clients are still using our old systems to this day with a 100% no-fail track record. Mining corporations are very focussed on safety and money is no object, but my colleagues and I confer often and are still amazed that this equipment is still standing the test of time." | |
| We talked extensively about what has transpired over the last 2 years for Ezylift, and Mr Grovic spoke not only as an Engineer with an eye on the future, but as a businessman with a eye on development or strategies for future growth. He explained to me, "there has been much interest in moving Ezylift manufacturing offshore for economic reasons, but he is reluctant to do so, as his staff and plant provides employment and industrial growth for Australia and I really would like to keep it that way if possible". He says, "however, the door has to be kept open for any offer, I can't go on forever and must do what is right for my family as well as my business". | |
| I asked Mr Grovic if he would be interested in any offers from overseas or indeed within Australia to merge Ezylift with another engineering firm, and he answered honestly and openly, telling me "like any businessman who has enjoyed a long and successful career, building up a company is hard work so its not easy to let go, but if the right offer came in, it would be discussed and considered if it was genuine and reasonable". | |
| Ezylift and the Grovic Dynasty of Australian Engineering is entering 2008 with a backlog of new orders, new ideas and a year of growth. This man is as uplifting in real life as his products are in the workshop, and it was once again a great experience interviewing a man who has such a great passion for Ezylift and his clients. | |
